After Awakened, in that same year, 2001, during a trip to visit Houston, Zen Master Thich Dieu Thien met two Buddhists, at that time they were having inner questions and earnestly asked for help. Zen Master has spent a lot of time, directly opening their mind to allow them to realize their capacity to Wake Up already within, because of that, they felt the lightness, inner openness, and the relationship between them and others around them became happier and more peaceful. Realizing the path of inner discovery to return to the Awake Mind was so miraculous and beneficial, they connected many people to follow Zen Master for the Awake practice. The more people understood, practiced and experienced,
the more they saw inner transformations beneficial, so the number of students was increasing and gradually forming a rather large group of students. At this time, the limited space in their house was not enough to accommodate an overcrowded group. After that, all students earnestly asked Zen Master Thich Dieu Thien to settle in Houston to open a meditation center, convenient for many people to practice the path towards Awake.
After two years of devotion to helping people, seeing many students developed the goal to Wake Up, Zen Master agreed to settle in Houston. Zen Master and her students found an acreage property on Charles Lane in Sugar Land, TX. Universal Door Meditation Center was founded in 2003. Many Venerables, Monks and nuns and numerous students attended the grand opening celebration of the meditation center.

The meditation center has its name "Universal Door" reflecting Zen Master Thich Dieu Thien’s Great Vow appeared at the moment she Awakened when she saw sentient beings whirling in the cycle of birth and death and suffering and vowed to step into life with only one goal...to open the mind and guide all people, regardless of religion, race, culture or background, to understand, believe, realize and become one with the Awake Mind, full liberation from the suffering of birth and death.
